Standon Bowers
What an incredible 2 days at Standon Bowers with Class 3. We have loved our adventure!
Day 1 consisted of den building, a blindfold trail, games on the field and a camp fire. We all had lots of fun making our beds and settling into our dorms.
Day 2 was bouldering, rock climbing and…
Classification of Leaves in Science
In Science we have been learning about Living things and their Habitats.
We explored our grounds and collected a range of leaves. We identified which trees they were from and then categorised them with a range of questions.
Lowry Art
Our charcoal artwork is inspired by Lowry today. We have enjoyed creating these masterpieces using the skills we have practised such as blending. Our fingers were very messy!
Mini Beast Hunt in Science
We have been learning about invertebrates and vertebrates in Science. We investigated the habitats around our school grounds and found lots of extra members of Anson! We then categorised them into vertebrates and invertebrates. Great hunting Class 3!
Charcoal light and shade
In Art, we have been investigating light and shade. We set up some torches on our table plants and observed which parts were darker than others. We then used our charcoals to sketch our plants. Finally we added some lights and shade by using our learnt techniques of smudging as well as varying the…
Charcoal in Art
We have started our art unit on Charcoal today. We used charcoal sticks to explore techniques such as hatching, cross hatching, blending, stippling, scrumbling and expressive lines. Well done children.
Duffy’s Lucky Escape!
We have started our year by reading the book Duffy’s Lucky Escape. We have written some poetry based on the illustrations. We have also drawn the turtle in art and worked on our colour blending skills.
Creating City Skylines
We have created our final pieces in our art unit today. We have been analysing architecture and developing our sketching skills. We combined them all together to create our own city skyline. Fantastic work Class 3!
Soil testing in Science
In Science, we have been collecting soil to understand that it is made from rock and organic matter. We have collected different types of soil, such as from around trees or in plant pots. To keep it a fair test, we put the same amount of soil in each pot as well as the same amount of water. We…
Creating rocks from Starburst sweets
In Science, we have been studying how rocks are formed. We have created models of the sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rocks through using Starburst sweets. We analysed the features of each ‘rock’ to create each rock form. We had lots of fun.
Sketching skills in Art
We have been practising our sketching skills with our pencils. We have then applied them to our sketches of the Gherkin building in London.
Investigating Rocks in Science
Today we have been taught by a member of our class who created a poster to explain all about igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. We then tested them to find out how they reacted to water and white vinegar. We also tested their durability and how hard they were by using golf tees to scratch…
